About
Gabriela Gehrman, MSN, PMHNP-BC
Board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, licensed in Illinois, currently working toward a Doctor of Nursing Practice.
I came to psychiatry from bedside nursing, which is where I learned that the thing a person leads with is rarely the whole story. That shapes how I run an appointment. I'd rather go long on the first visit and actually understand what's happening than move fast and get it wrong.
A lot of people reach me having already tried something that didn't work — a medication that flattened them out, or an appointment that ended before they finished the sentence. So I spend the first hour listening properly, and I explain my reasoning rather than handing down a plan.
I welcome patients from every background and culture, and I see people in both English and Polish. Most of my patients call me Gaby.

How I practise
Medication is one tool. It isn't the only one.
A full hour to start
Sixty minutes for a first visit. History, symptoms, past treatment, medications, sleep, stress, and what your life actually looks like week to week.
Whole-person, not just the diagnosis
Integrative psychiatry means sleep, nutrition, movement and stress are part of the conversation alongside medication, because they shape how you feel.
Honest about limits
If you need care beyond what an outpatient practice can safely provide, I'll tell you and help you find it rather than keep you here.
